Abstract

Purpose: This study is to identify the effect on knowledge, self-efficacy and competency of cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) through computer simulation self-directed learning program in nursing college students.

Method: In this study, a equivalent control pretest-posttest experimental design was used. Data was collected from November 16 to 27 in 2009. Participants were 69 nursing students, 35 were assigned to the experimental group and 34 to
the control group. Subjects on the experimental group received CPR through computer simulation(MicroSim Inhospital TM) learning program. The collected data were analyzed using the PASW 18.0 program, using t-test, ¥ö2-test, and ANCOVA.

Result: The Scores ofknowledge, self-efficacy and competency in the computer simulation program group were significantly higher than those of the control group.

Conclusion: The Computer simulation program can be recommended to improve knowledge, self-efficacy and competency in CPR. The study to verify this computer simulation program is also effective. A computer simulation program applied to other nursing skills is needed.
